On today’s Banner Morning:
• An ode to Juwan Morgan’s fantastic career
• Some recruiting news
• A potential transfer
• A quote from Archie about moving into the offseason
Welcome Hoosier fans to this Thursday edition of Banner Morning — your daily rundown of IU basketball news and notes.
I’m Michael Dugan, filling in for Jerod Morris, and we are now officially on day 2 of the offseason.
In player news …
Juwan Morgan played his final game as a Hoosier on Tuesday and posted the 18th 20-point game of his remarkable Indiana career, and his 8th such game of the season. He also finished with 3 blocks to bring his season total up to 54, which averages out to a block and a half per game.
Juwan’s final career stats in terms of IU history are as follows, and beware, they are impressive: 1,374 points, which is 24th in program history. 757 rebounds, which is 10th. 56.2% field goal percentage, tied for fifth. And 138 blocks, which is eighth. Just an outstanding four year career that was highlighted by a couple of heroic performances at the Crossroads Classic, multiple double-doubles, a triple-double, and being a great leader and a fan favorite.
From all of Hoosier Nation, we want to say congratulations to Juwan on a fantastic career in Bloomington, and an enormous thank you for all he did to help the program grow. We’re excited to see where life takes him.
In team news …
Trayce Jackson-Davis took the court on Wednesday night in the McDonald’s All-American game.
He finished the game with 7 points and 5 rebounds, including a couple of dunks.
Corey Evans, a national basketball analyst for Rivals, tweeted out that Indiana is a team involved with the transfer of Alabama guard Kira Lewis. Kira had an impressive freshman campaign, playing over 31 minutes per game, averaging 13.5 points and 3 assists, and was a 36% three point shooter.
It should be noted that he will be a pretty hot commodity in the transfer market, and teams like Duke, Tennessee, Memphis and Louisville have also shown interest, according to the tweet from Corey. We’re still in the early stages, but with a scholarship spot open, this is something to keep an eye on.
As the season came to a close, Alex Bozich of Inside the Hall took a look ahead to next season, one that certainly has a lot of question marks as we move through the spring and into the summer. Among the question marks: how will Indiana fix its perimeter shooting woes? Improvement from in-house? Transfer? The answer is yet to be seen, and Archie Miller wouldn’t provide much on how his team would move through the offseason, saying “I haven’t thought about it yet.”
