Welcome Hoosier fans to today’s edition of Banner Morning — your daily rundown of IU basketball news and notes.
I’m Cameron Drummond and Khristian Lander has officially reclassified to 2020.
Some much anticipated and expected news greeted Hoosier fans midway through Monday morning when it was announced that 5-star point guard Khristian Lander had officially reclassified from the Class of 2021 to the Class of 2020.
The news was announced by Lander himself on social media and first reported by Brian Snow of 247Sports.
It was also hardly a surprise, as Lander has told myself and numerous other media members covering Indiana basketball that he preferred to reclassify to 2020, listing the chance to play with returning Indiana sophomore forward Trayce Jackson-Davis as a main reason why.
The move for the former Evansville Reitz point guard was finally confirmed Monday, with an IU spokesperson confirming to Inside The Hall that IU has received Lander’s National Letter of Intent.
Lander’s recruiting rankings have since been adjusted following this announcement. In the 247Composite, Lander is listed as the No. 17 player nationally and the No. 4 point guard in the 2020 class.
The move also means Indiana will welcome four freshmen to Bloomington next season, as Lander joins a pair of his AAU teammates from Indiana Elite in guards Anthony Leal and Trey Galloway, along with small forward Jordan Geronimo.
IU, which is now listed as having the 13th-best recruiting class in the country for 2020 by 247Sports, now has 12 scholarship players on its roster for the 2020-21 season, giving Archie Miller and his staff the luxury to still pursue another player this offseason via the NCAA transfer portal.
In a press release from the Indiana basketball program confirming the addition of Lander to IU’s 2020 recruiting class, Archie Miller commented on his arrival.
“I knew when I first saw Khristian at 15 years old, that he was a special player,” Miller said. “He has great feel for the point guard position. His competitive drive has pushed him to elevate his game rapidly and his family has done a great job of keeping him grounded and humble.”
Congratulations Khristian and welcome to Indiana.
