In today’s edition of Banner Morning:
• A look at Indiana’s upcoming schedule
• Hoosiers miss out on 5-star recruit
• Juwan Morgan signs with the Utah Jazz
Welcome Hoosier fans to today’s edition of Banner Morning — your daily rundown of IU basketball news and notes.
I’m Cameron Drummond and let’s look at the weeks ahead.
With the upcoming Thanksgiving Break, Banner Morning won’t return for a few weeks, and plenty of on-court action will take place for the Hoosiers in the meantime.
Indiana has a pair of nonconference games left against lesser opponents, as Louisiana Tech comes to Assembly Hall on Nov. 25 and South Dakota State does the same on Nov. 30.
Currently ranked 91st and 212th in KenPom, the Bulldogs and Jackrabbits will be the final tests for Archie Miller’s team before the Big Ten / ACC Challenge against Florida State in early December.
It’s been an uninspiring start to the season for the Big Ten Conference at large, with only five undefeated teams left, including Indiana.
With Indiana on an off day Thursday following the home win over Princeton on Wednesday, Miller and company took a lunch trip to a beloved Bloomington institution, the recently reopened Yogi’s Bar and Grill, where the Hoosier head coach signed the Indiana court on the wall.
Wednesday was also a significant day for the future of Miller’s program, although without the outcome Hoosier fans were hoping for.
With most of the top recruiting targets now off the board, Miller may consider looking at the transfer market to bring in a final scholarship player.
Lastly, Thursday marked the continuation of Juwan Morgan’s NBA career.
Morgan signed a contract with the Utah Jazz on Thursday, having already appeared in five games this season with the Salt Lake City Stars, the team’s G-League affiliate. Morgan led the team by shooting better than 71 percent from the field, and had also recorded two double-doubles with Salt Lake City prior to his NBA call-up.
Juwan Morgan is now the third NBA player from Tom Crean’s 2015 recruiting class to reach the professional ranks.
Also in the NBA is OG Anunoby with the Toronto Raptors and Thomas Bryant with the Washington Wizards.
OG, as you may remember, won an NBA title with the Raptors last season.
Congratulations Juwan and best of luck to you with the Jazz!
