• Honoring 1980 team
• Assembly Call postgame show
Welcome Hoosier fans to today’s edition of Banner Morning — your daily rundown of IU basketball news and notes.
I’m Dylan Wallace and it’s time to preview Purdue.
Basketball day Indiana will take place tomorrow, with numerous games being played across the state to celebrate the history Indiana has with the sport.
What better way to showcase the sport than to have the Indiana-Purdue rivalry on center stage?
The game will be on ESPN at 2 p.m. with Dick Vitale on color, Bob Wischusen on play-by-play and Kris Budden on sideline.
The Boilermakers come into the game with a 6-6 conference record and 13-10 overall record. Purdue is fresh off a game in which they shot absolutely lights out from behind the 3-point line.
They routed No. 17 Iowa, 104-68, and made 19 3-pointers. The Boilers had 61 points at halftime, which was what they scored for the entire game just one game prior against Northwestern. And of course, Indiana has failed to score more than 60 points in each of its last two games.
However, as hot as Purdue was on Wednesday night, their shooting has been abysmal on the road this season, which was what Indiana hopes to have happen again tomorrow.
But wins have been hard to come by for the Hoosiers lately against their in-state rival.
Indiana hasn’t beaten Purdue since Feb. 20 in 2016. It’s been a long wait for Hoosier fans to finally take down the state rival, and finally there is no Carsen Edwards to deal with.
Purdue has a good inside game with Trevion Williams and Matt Haarms, so Indiana’s bigs will need to be a lot more physical than they were against Ohio State.
Also, Indiana will be honoring the 1980 Big Ten Champions team during halftime of Saturday’s game. There is no confirmation if Bob Knight will be there, but Gene Keady announced he’ll be in attendance.
Lastly, make sure to join Jerod, Andy, Ryan and Coach after the game as they will be broadcasting Assembly Call’s postgame show live from Switchyard Brewing. So, if you’re in town, stop by and say hi, and if not, make sure to tune in anyway.
