After one of the most destabilizing weeks I have ever experienced as an IU fan, Thursday brought us sudden and decisive closure on the most important question heading into the offseason.
Would Tom Crean stay as Indiana’s head coach?
For 36 hours, as we all sat stinging from the predictable loss to Georgia Tech and the unconscionable decision to give up an NIT home game, nothing was said. And the silence was deafening.
Until, all of a sudden, out of nowhere, and in the midst of Thursday’s NCAA Tournament games getting underway, the string of tweets came: Tom Crean is fired. It was almost too simple and definitive to believe.
But it was true. And now here we are.
Tom Crean is no longer the coach at Indiana University. The search for the coach who can take Indiana from sporadically good to consistently great is on. And there can be no mistaking where Fred Glass stands on what reasonable expectations are for Indiana basketball.
We discuss all of this and more on the latest edition of Assembly Call Radio.
