Welcome to another edition of 6-Banner Saturday, where we highlight the six most essential IU basketball stories of the past week.
It was another wild week for IU basketball. The thin Hoosiers played tough to the Big Ten’s best, but ultimately came up short in an 0-2 week. From the good and the bad to take away from this week, to the success of a Hoosier in the NBA and a farewell to a friend, here are the six big stories from this week in Indiana hoops.
In this week’s edition:
- The defense is improving
- Yogi continues to be Yogi
- Indiana’s true identity is being exposed
- Takeaways from a crucial Purdue game
- Farewell, and thank you, Alex
Plus, we deliver the best deals on IU tickets from SeatGeek.
Let’s hang some banners …
The defense is improving
After the debacle in Michigan, and a circus game against Penn State, many expected the Hoosiers to let both Wisconsin and Purdue run amok on them.
That was far from the case.
Despite being short-handed in Madison, the Hoosiers held the Badgers, a team that shoots 46%, to less than 40% shooting. With James Blackmon back on the floor, Indiana held a 48%-shooting team in Purdue to just 40%.
This was the first time in conference play where Indiana held back-to-back opponents to under 70 points, and it came against two of the best offenses in the conference.
While the mounting losses may be frustrating, the defense does seem to be on an upward trend. Perhaps that is something for these beleaguered Hoosiers to build on down the stretch.
