It wasn’t easy. It wasn’t pretty. And Hoosier Nation collectively has no more nails to chew. But it was a victory, and it was thoroughly satisfying, and it propels Indiana to the Sweet 16 for the second consecutive season.
Despite trailing for most of the second half, Indiana defeated Temple 58-52 today. The Owls – Khalif Wyatt especially – deserve a huge tip of the cap for playing the #1 seed so tough and taking Indiana to the edge. But Indiana’s upper-classmen deserve a huge hat tip as well for refusing to let Indiana lose.
The two biggest plays, of course, were the #WatSwat and Victor Oladipo’s game-clinching three pointer from the top of the key. And the contributions of Jordan Hulls, though they don’t show up in the box score, should not go unnoticed. Hulls was injured in the first half, and the Hoosiers clearly missed him. Braced up and ready go for half #2, Hulls provided a steady hand and calm leadership when Indiana needed it most.
IU now faces Syracuse in the Sweet 16, and the Orange will present a unique challenge because of their zone. Will the Hoosiers be up to it? We look ahead to the Sweet 16 and dissect today’s thrilling W on the latest episode of The Assembly Call.
