It was supposed to be another Banner season in Bloomington. Turns out that wasn’t meant to be, a point driven home tonight in Washington D.C. by Syracuse and it’s impenetrable zone.
But it was still a successful season. A very successful one. And though IU fans everywhere should feel disappointment, there is a certain joy to be found in that disappointment. It means that more was expected.
Only a handful of programs in America could go to two straight Sweet 16s and win an outright Big Ten title and feel like it wasn’t enough. That’s where Indiana is these days, back where it belongs. And it’s gotten there on the backs of boys-turned-men who give IU fans every reason on and off the court to be proud of the Hoosiers.
Ryan, Andy, and I are sure are proud. We’re disappointed. Stomach-punch disappointed. But we didn’t let that cloud our perspective tonight.
If you want angry ranting about the Syracuse loss, you won’t find it here. But if you want to hear three die-hards try to come to grips with the end of this scintillating two-year run in the raw, immediate aftermath of its brutal ending, listen in and commiserate right along.
