Commentary: Matt Roth’s Scholarship Should Not Be In Question

Terry Hutchens wrote a terrific piece this morning that reminded me of a topic I’ve been wanting to address: Indiana’s scholarship crunch for the upcoming 2012-13 season. Hutchens’ piece – entitled “Hoosiers need to find a scholarship for Roth” – echoes exactly what I have been thinking about this issue.

Why The 2011-12 Indiana Basketball Team Deserves A Banner In Assembly Hall

With Friday’s Sweet 16 loss well past 72 hours in the rearview, I’m ready to say that the the 2011-12 Indiana Hoosiers deserve a banner in Assembly Hall. In this post, I will explain why I think this is the case as well as provide my counter arguments to the more than reasonable points that can and probably will be made in opposition of this idea.

Indiana-Kentucky Sweet 16 Postgame Show

One of the most memorable seasons in my 20+ years as an avid Indiana basketball fan ended last night when the Hoosiers fell 102-90 to the Kentucky Wildcats. Here is last night’s postgame show, where the disappointment was certainly palpable but, I think, totally overshadowed by the pride of what this team accomplished and the optimism about what the future holds for IU hoops.

Why This Season With This Team Simply Cannot End Yet

The Indiana Hoosiers have a trip to the Elite 8 and a second victory over a hated arch-rival on the line tonight, but those reasons are not anywhere close to the main reason why Jerod hopes IU prevails tonight. He, like many IU fans across the globe, just really, really does not want this season, with this team, to end.

Fear Not, Hoosier Fans: History Of 3-Point Shooting In The Georgia Dome Suggests Nothing Negative For IU

Indiana may well have an off shooting night from downtown Friday night, but based on the anecdotal evidence from five sets of NCAA Tournament games played at the Georgia Dome, if Indiana – a very, very good 3-point shooting team – does shoot poorly from 3-point range, it will not be the fault of the cavernous Georgia Dome and its ostensibly challenging shooting background.

Indiana-Kentucky Sweet 16 Preview Show with Chronic Hoosier

In our Indiana-Kentucky Sweet 16 Preview episode, we break down matchups – specifically Anthony Davis on Cody Zeller and Indiana’s guards on Kentucky’s guards – and discuss key players, the coaches, and the importance of Indiana’s intangibles against Kentucky’s incredible talent. And, of course, we give predictions.

7 Reasons Friday’s Indiana-Kentucky Outcome Is Far From A Foregone Conclusion

Kentucky is a great team, deserving of being the favorite to cut down the nets in New Orleans on April 1st. However, I’ve had about enough of people disregarding Indiana’s chances to beat Kentucky on Friday night because the outcome is far from the foregone conclusion that some seem to think it is.

IU-VCU Postgame Show

By now you know all the details of how and why Indiana’s VCU victory happened, and you’ve surely seen the replay of Will Sheehey’s shot more than a few times. Andy, Ryan, and I broke down the game – quite excitedly – immediately when it was over.

IU-New Mexico State Quick Recap and Postgame Show

Not only is Indiana back in the NCAA Tournament, Indiana is back in the win column in the NCAA Tournament. Since 1994, it’s been a rare season when we’ve been able to say that.

IU-Wisconsin Big Ten Tournament Postgame Show

Indiana’s Big Ten Tournament run ended today as the Hoosiers lost 79-71 to the Wisconsin Badgers in the quarterfinals. Wisconsin was able to get out to a 25-15 lead early thanks to some hot 3-point shooting, which never ended, and though the Hoosiers cut the deficit to one on numerous occasions, they were never able to get over the hump.

Torn ACL For Verdell – Now It’s Time To Go Win For Him

I am just sick about this news. Indiana has confirmed this morning that senior Verdell Jones tore his ACL during the first half of yesterday’s game against Penn State. He will miss the rest of the Big Ten Tournament and any games Indiana plays in the NCAA Tournament.

IU-Penn State Big Ten Tournament Game Quick Recap and Postgame Show

For the first time since 2007, Indiana and its fans tasted victory in a postseason game. Unfortunately, the news is not all positive coming out of Indianapolis tonight. We broke it all down on the latest episode of The Assembly Call, with Chronic Hoosier joining in for the final 15-20 minutes with an anecdote that will warm your heart and make you even more proud of this group of kids that have led IU’s resurgence in 2012.

Indiana-Purdue Quick Recap and Postgame Show

It was a special night in Bloomington, in more ways than one. First, Indiana completed a sweep of its arch rival Purdue, taking an early lead and never relinquishing it. And secondly, it was special because one of the most memorable senior classes in Indiana basketball history was honored.

A Heartfelt Thank You To IU’s Senior Class of 2012

Verdell Jones, Tom Pritchard, Matt Roth, Daniel Moore, and Kory Barnett were around for all of the carnage. Now, they are ready to take on Purdue with a 24th overall win, an 11th conference win, and 5th place in the Big Ten on the line, in Assembly Hall, on Senior Day. As far as I’m concerned, these five young men deserve as loud an ovation as has ever been given to a group of IU seniors.
